National Design Competition, XIXth edition

After a two-year break imposed by the pandemic, the Association of Romanian Furniture Manufacturers is organising, starting this spring, the 19th edition of the National Design Competition. 

This event aims to promote young architects and designers and encourage them to create new products that will differentiate them in local and foreign markets.

The competition has two stages: CREATION, which took place in June this year and PROTOTIPE which will take place at the beginning of September this year. The competition brought together 92 competitors: 70 students from universities and colleges, 2 students and 20 professionals.

The winners of the CREATION phase have already been announced in the second half of June and we invite you to admire the winning projects below:

1st prize - product "SPINNING LOLLYPOP" - Molnar-Varlam Mihnea, 4th year student, "Transilvania" University of Brasov, Faculty of Furniture Design and Wood Engineering

2nd prize - product "SWISS DESK" - Olariu Alin, architect/interior designer, graduate of "Gheorghe Asachi" University, "GM Cantacuzino" Faculty, Iasi

3rd prize and special prize OAR Bucharest - product "LOOP series - SLOOP chair" - Țurcanu Razvan Alexandru, 2nd year student, University of Architecture and Urbanism "Ion Mincu" Bucharest, Faculty of Interior Architecture, specialization Furniture

All those who participated in the CREATION stage are invited to prototype their projects and enter the second stage of the competition: PROTOTYPING. The products produced for this stage will be exhibited in a special stand at BIFE-SIM International Furniture, Equipment and Accessories Fair, which will take place at ROMEXPO from 22 to 25 September 2022.

Romanian Furniture Manufacturers Association #APMR organized the National Design Competition in partnership with ROMEXPO, "Ion Mincu" University of Architecture and Urbanism Bucharest - Faculty of Interior Architecture, "Transilvania" University of Brasov - Faculty of Furniture Design and Wood Engineering and the Romanian Order of Architects (OAR) - Bucharest Branch.
